AWS re:Invent 2021 Highlights: The Future of IT Infrastructure

AllCloud Blog:
Cloud Insights and Innovation

TL:DR Check out a quick video of me on site just after Dr. Werner Vogels delivered his keynote:  AWS reInvent 2021 Keynote Highlights: AllCloud’s Lahav Savir

I have had some time to digest this year’s AWS re:Invent – after last year’s virtual conference due to COVID, it was very exciting to gather once again in person in Vegas with colleagues and partners from all over the world.

A team of 20 AllCloud AWS experts joined with some 25K participants to learn, discover and celebrate the trends, developments and achievements in our ecosystem. At AllCloud, we were thrilled to get a shout-out on stage by Doug Yeum, Head of Worldwide Channel and Alliances, during the Global Partner Summit Keynote for being one of the top AWS Strategic Collaboration Partners to successfully plan and execute MAP migrations. That’s something we are incredibly proud of, and we have big plans to leverage all we learned at re:Invent to help even more organizations migrate to the cloud and digitally transform their business.

If there’s one thing in the ever-evolving sea of AWS innovation that has remained constant, it’s Dr. Werner Vogels. When I am at re:Invent I especially look forward to watching Wener’s Keynote, here are some of the highlights from his session and what to look out for in the world of AWS in 2022:

AWS technology is more accessible than ever: The explosion of growth in AWS in recent years is truly impressive, as Werner mentioned AWS launches 60 million EC2s a day which is double the amount it was launching in 2019. With 30 new AWS local zones coming online in 2022 and over 205 services, AWS is expanding into new territories and industries, making it easier to go where no cloud has gone before.

This year, AWS proved it will bring cloud innovation even closer to the customer; some of the ways they are diving deep are demonstrated in these announcements:

SD-Wan announcement: The AWS Cloud-Wan is the new managed wide-area networking service that will allow building, management and monitoring of an organization’s global network. AWS has been working with telecoms and large enterprises to develop this service, enabling customers to connect data centers, branch offices and cloud resources into a unified, centrally managed and accessible global network.

Private 5G network: The preview of the Private 5G Network provided a peek into the new capabilities of organizations to set up and scale private 5G networks in their organizations in a matter of days. Fast setup, deployment and scaling ensure capacity on demand for increased network traffic and additional devices. Learn more here

AWS going to Mainframe: AWS Mainframe Modernization is a new platform designed to get customers off mainframe as quickly as possible, so they can expedite the migration to the cloud and maximize the benefits. The usual “lift and shift” and other methods are cumbersome and time-consuming; this new solution announced at re:Invent, enables customers to identify their best-fit migration path and tools for fast migration off mainframe to AWS.

IoT announcements: Introducing the “Internet of a billion Things”, as Dr. Werner Vogels coined it – AWS IoT Greengrass and AWS Systems Manager integrated to make management and maintenance of system software for edge devices even simpler.

AWS Cloud Development Kit V2: The new CDK aims to reduce complexity for developers as the AWS platform becomes more and more robust. Overall, I’d say that the idea of “simplifying innovation” sums up re:Invent 2021. Amazon has proven to provide one platform for compute power, storage, development, networking, security, IoT, logging/monitoring, data analytics and AI/ML. Or as we like to say, basically the “Future of IT Infrastructure”.

The re:Invent experience is not over yet! We’ll be hosting live, in-person events in several regions, where we’ll bring you the best of re:Invent highlights around SaaS, containers and EKS, AI-Ops, DevSecOps, serverless data & analytics tools and explore how we can work together to future-proof your business leveraging AWS. Stay tuned for an AllCloud Best of re:Invent event happening near you.
